Gods, Demons and Imaginary Friends

(Whether You Believe in Them or Not)

With Philip H. Farber

Phil’s seminars are always a fascinating exploration of the mind and this one is no exception!  Did you know that recent discoveries concerning human neurology suggest that the magical operation of evocation – contacting and communicating with spirits – has a biological basis? Our gods, demons, angels, loas, and imaginary friends are there for reasons beyond the obvious.

Come and learn new, exciting, and practical ways to play with and learn from our less corporeal colleagues. Phil will offer discussion, demonstration and fun group participation to illustrate these important magical ideas.

Eros, Neurobiology, and Magic

With Dr. David Haquan MD

Dave introduces a new theory of magic that is primarily biologically based.  This seminar is an acclaimed and intriguing journey through a landscape that begins with Renaissance magic, and later cunningly extrapolates to the latest theories regarding a neurological basis for magic.

Dave’s main focus in this talk is Love Magic, but his research on Renaissance magic, Giordano Bruno, and Eros (the god of love), progresses through other concepts:  the art of memory, the demise of magic’s central role in Western thought, the development of psychology and advertising, and finally back to Love magic and its neurological underpinnings.

Dave will be discussing the concepts of newer psychological models such as limbic resonance, regulation, and revision, and also how memories are stored.  He will also introduce the theory of Attractors and how they may be the basis of much of our biological magical ability.

Seuss: The Magical Connection

With Eddie da Silva

This ground-breaking presentation will have you entertained and captivated.  Eddie will discuss the links between Dr. Seuss' work and various esoteric concepts.  In particular, the books, On Beyond Zebra, McElligot's Pool, and The Cat in the Hat will be discussed.  Working beyond mere speculative analysis, Eddie will be discussing the potential practical applications of Dr Seuss’ books as well as their hidden (and possibly intentional) occult interpretations.

The Random Magickian

With Mr. Dagaz & Michael Colcord

An introduction to a new paradigm!  This seminar focuses on The Anathema of Random Magic, Non-Linear Casual Magics, Random Aurics and Random Realms.

This team introduces a remarkably original paradigm that uses random events to manipulate a malleable perception, thereby creating and expressing new realities in tangible ways.  This powerful method eschews attachment and linear thought-processes, forcing the operator to function on the fly with "all hands open".  The seminar also looks at how to apply the Random Paradigm to evocation, invocation, enchantment and divination.

Re/Considering the Cybernetic Model of Magic

With Joshua Madara

Magical Cybernetics is an extraordinary and inventive emerging field pioneered by Joshua Madara.

If the word cybernetics brings no more to mind than robot parts and virtual reality, then you may have missed some nuances of one of the most far-reaching (and still developing) scientific and social movements of the last century!  We will re/view some cybernetic maxims (including those that have given rise to cyborgs and cyberspace), and re/consider what they may mean with reference to how we understand and practice magic.

The Vision in the Cave

With The Kite

Before priests, we had ritual. We have no record of what our Paleolithic ancestors did except for some of what they left behind. In this workshop we shall reconstruct Old Stone Age ritual as far as we can and revisit the roots of magic. Expect this powerful ritual to change you forever!

Postmodernist Magical Technique

With Dr. David Haquan MD

Starting with a review of the classical, modern, and postmodern periods of Western Thought & Art, and the parallel evolution of occult gestalts, we will explore what postmodernism is, and analyze the postmodern agenda.  Dave will demonstrate why Chaos Magic is the first postmodern form of magic, and he will point out lingering elements of modernism within CMT and the Chaos Magic culture.  Pointing the way towards a fully postmodern approach to magic, Dave will discuss techniques and ideas that will be of interest to the advanced practitioner. The topics include (but are not limited to) the use of simulacra, hyper-reality in ritual design, ethereal machines, algorithmic enchantment, retroviral servitors, recombinant entities, egregoric gene splicing, artificial deities, and constructed magical languages.  The seminar concludes with a discussion of the future of magic, magical possibility, and the pursuit of magical excellence.

Giving Ideas & Concepts Form

With Andrieh Vitimus

The Egyptians used to say that anything that can be conceived of is, in some form, real. By giving concepts form and name, we can more easily work with them. Concepts can include body parts, stars, planets, machines and anything else that we can label or define.

Once given alternate form and name these concepts can be worked with in magic to form personal mythologies and grimoires.  These artificial forms may be called spirits or eidolons, and can be worked with to surprisingly good results, once the mind has cemented the new static/symbolic form(s) inside one’s own symbolic matrix.

Since the majority of brains are set up to communicate with other beings, operating with different personified forms allows the budding magician to use more of their mental power while performing reality adjustments in a fun, easy to understand manner. The workshop will go over ways of dealing with symbolic forms, and expand the idea of working with the created forms into any area where magical work is desired. The creation process is innovative and simple.

There is no Magic!

With Fäustchen

Greek ek-stasis was translated into latin as super-stitio, and "superstition" is a charge magicians have failed to counter effectively for two millenia. In this seminar we will take an in-depth look at magic from a multitude of skeptical academic perspectives. We will look at the accepted mainstream evidence for and against magic, and take it on a roller-coaster ride through the theory of science, the history of religion, empirical parapsychology and other superficially unrelated disciplines. Our goal is no less than the ability to defend magic within modern science, rather than retreat into an alternative (postmodern) frame of reference.
